Community-Based Instruction

Community-Based Instruction

The CLA Community-Based Instruction program (CBI) is designed to help our students increase independence in employability, the activities of daily living, communication, safety, self-help, mobility and travel, social skills, behavior, leisure and financial literacy. The goal of the program is to provide hands-on learning activities for all age levels to help students acquire the skills to live in the world today.

Our students engage in job training activities with our community partners through our service-oriented model. We believe students with disabilities can offer a great deal to their communities as they develop a sense of accomplishment and purpose by giving back to those in need.

Job site training is provided, and jobs are tailored to the skills and abilities of each individual participant. Job responsibilities may include assembly, packaging, sorting, collating, organizing, stocking, reporting to staff, customer service, public speaking and more.
