Funding Needs

Gifts to our annual operating fund are always welcome. Like all independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the costs at Collective Learning Academy. We have a $1.1 million annual budget which requires $50,000 in donations just to break even—a relatively small amount compared to other schools, but a lot for our families who are financially stretched (and some) as they care for their extra-special children. CLA is invested in our students and our staff: Over 80% of our revenues provide competitive salaries and benefits for teachers, student service providers, and leadership who work directly with students. We are very excited this school year to launch a 401(K) program with up to a 4% match by the school for our employees!

In addition to the general operating needs, the school has the following capital needs:

  • Furnishing our model student apartment which will serve as a learning studio to build independent living skills: $30,000. Many thanks to our foundation partner who provided a $90,000 grant to fund construction!

  • Funding the purchase of a second used passenger van to transport students daily to their afternoon Community Based Learning sites: $60,000

  • Ensuring the school’s sustainability by increasing operating reserves from $165,000 to $500,000

  • Keeping tuition costs stable and establishing a financial aid program.
