CLA Hosts Student Art Exhibition

The CLA students presented their very own Art Exhibition recently. The students created beautiful artwork in Ms. Lindsay's art class throughout the school year. The incredible art pieces were on display, just like in a museum.

This exhibition showcases the power of color in expressing identity and how thoughtful color choices can communicate emotion, memory, and personality. Get ready to explore a world of color, creativity, and self-expression!

Learn more about each project below.

Color Theory & Selfies – Painting Your Personality

In this vibrant project, students explored the world of color theory by diving into the art of mixing primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. They created their own color wheels, learned about complementary and analogous color schemes, and experimented with tints, shades, and neutrals to enhance their artwork.

The final challenge? Using their newfound color knowledge, students selected a personal color scheme that reflected their unique personality or interests. By painting over a posterized selfie, they expressed themselves through colors that highlight their uniqueness.

Straight Line Design: Mondrian-Inspired Artwork

In this project, students explored the world of abstract art by creating Mondrian-style compositions using blue painter’s tape and tempera paints.

We learned about the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, famous for his bold, geometric compositions. His work features simple, rectangular shapes filled with primary colors (red, yellow, blue), as well as black and white lines. Mondrian’s art is known for its clean lines, geometric precision, and balanced use of color, all of which work together to create visual harmony.

Like Mondrian, students used lines and geometric shapes in their artwork. By using painter’s tape to form their designs, students created structured, yet expressive works that echo Mondrian’s iconic style.

Pinch Pots – Handcrafted Creations

Step into a world of texture, creativity, and craftsmanship with our Pinch Pot Exhibition. In this collection, students explore the art of pottery through the simple yet powerful technique of pinching clay. Each pot tells a unique story, shaped by hands and imagination.

This exhibition showcases the variety of styles, shapes, and designs that can be created with the technique of pinching clay. Each piece showcases the student's unique touch and creativity, reflecting their individual approach to the technique.

Experience how a simple ball of clay transforms into a personal work of art, with every shape and detail reflecting the creativity of the artist.

Handmade Paper Bead Jewelry

This exhibition showcases the creativity and craftsmanship behind our handmade paper bead jewelry. Each bead was carefully rolled by hand, then coated with resin to give the finished pieces a smooth, polished look.

Throughout the project, lessons were adapted to meet the needs of each student, with teachers offering guidance and support every step of the way. This collaborative approach allowed every student to successfully create their own unique piece of jewelry.

Students also explored the history and cultural significance of paper beads, discovering how they’ve been used around the world as both decorative art and meaningful symbols.

This exhibition celebrates creativity, community, and personal expression—showcasing how simple materials, when combined with support and imagination, can become something truly special.

Rockin’ the Design World: Student Concert Posters

In this project, students turned up the volume on their design skills by creating eye-catching concert posters using the CRAP principles—Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity (yep, it’s a real thing!). They learned how to arrange key elements like band names, dates, and visuals to craft layouts that look polished and make an impact.

Using a variety of hands-on materials, students mixed media like pros. They layered paper, fabric, stickers, rhinestones, stencils, and more to give their posters texture, depth, and personality. They also critiqued poorly designed posters to understand common mistakes.

The main goal was to design posters that attract attention, communicate essential information, and reflect the style and mood of the event, showcasing how visual elements can convey powerful messages in advertising.

Inspired by Nature: Scratchboard Art

In this project, students learned basic shading techniques—hatching, crosshatching, stippling, and blending—to show value and contrast in their artwork.

They researched wildlife photographers and chose animals that inspired them. Using scratchboard, they transferred outlines of their animals and used shading techniques to create detailed, expressive artwork.

Each piece shows the student's unique perspective and growing skills in line, texture, and shading.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Student Art Exhibition! It was a truly special event.
